PLASTIC SURGERY RECOVERY PLANNING

THE SHORT ANSWER
Plastic surgery recovery varies with the procedure, its extent, your health and your daily activities. Ask for a written plan that separates wound care, help at home, work, exercise and follow-up.

Build a recovery plan before booking

List your work tasks, lifting responsibilities, childcare, transport and home setup. Ask the surgical team which parts you will need help with and for how long. A desk job and a physically demanding job create different planning questions.

Arrange transport and the support your team recommends. Confirm the follow-up schedule and who can assess concerns if you live far from the practice.

Get clear aftercare instructions

Ask for written directions for incision care, dressings, any drains, prescribed medicines and activities. Have the team explain what is expected and which changes require a call or urgent assessment. Follow your clinician’s instructions rather than another patient’s timeline.

Use the right procedure guide

Rhinoplasty recovery · Breast augmentation recovery · Tummy tuck recovery · Facelift recovery · Liposuction recovery · Blepharoplasty recovery.

Recovery milestones are not the same as final results. Ask when the surgeon expects to judge the outcome and whether healing can continue beyond your return to work.

Questions to resolve

  • What should I expect during the first few days?
  • What signs mean I should call you, and which need emergency care?
  • When can I shower, drive, lift, exercise and return to my work?
  • Who will review healing and adjust the plan?
